Tailoring and Alterations

Good people- another tip we will cover during my class is the need to have a great tailoring service for alterations. Not a good service provider but a great service provider.

If you have a good seamstress in your pocket (no pun intended) you can buy almost anything and make it work for your shape and size. This gets you to look beyond off the rack merchandise. You can now think about buying consignment, vintage and rock bottom priced sale items as the world opens itself up to you if you can alter a garment.

There are many many options for reuse of clothing. In the Boston area there are second hand stores, consignment stores, vintage boutiques, as well as on line purchasing off eBay or other auction sites. If you have a smart vision for a garment you can buy it and work with a tailor or seamstress to create miracles.

Two locals are Yelena Couture who recently relocated from the now defunct Atrium Mall in Chestnut Hill to the Mall at Chestnut Hill 199 Boylston Street
Yelena Yanovksy (617) 969-5330 can handle anything from bridal alterations to special tailoring.

Susana Jovenich formerly of Barneys Chestnut Hill is independent and west of Boston in Framingham call her direct for details (508) 877-7165

There are so many good vintage finds out there and second hand stores hold treasures sometimes never worn, tags still on the goods. Don't turn away an opportunity to reuse a fine garment because some alterations are needed.  Find yourself a great alterations specialist.
